Art 1 Final Portfolio

My favorite material that I used this year was clay/paint. I like working with clay because of all the unique shapes that you can make with it. You can make anything that you want to make because if you can shape it you can make it. I like working with paint because painting is easy to do and it gives your art a certian texture. When I make something out of clay I use paint because it goes on the material much easier than say, chalk. When I make something with chalk I like to use my hands to mold the artwork and then I use tools if I feel like adding a certian design or style to my piece. I Also like using the pinch pot, and score and slip when creating my clay figure. When creating something with clay it better to create something that is valuable to you and that you would want to treasure for a numerous amount of time.

A Technique that I used in some of my artwork that worked really well was shading. The main reason I use shading is to make it look more realistic. Also, I use shading to add more realism to the piece. Shading gives the artwork more contrast and blend to the picture. Sometimes I use shading to add light and dark contrast. Shading is important to the drawings because it makes it come alive. I use shading to provide a shape as well. Shading can be very important when using materials like chalk, pen, or pencil.
My least favorite material to work with is carbboard. I hate working with cardboard because it is really difficult to shape. The cardboard is so thick that when you use the cutting knife to cut through the cardboard it takes multiple times for it to go through. If you can find a easier material to use then that would be helpful. How I deal with working with it is I get the bigest knife that i can find, cut through the outline of the cardboard first, then finish cutting it all the way through. Another problem is its difficult to get the cardboard to stick together withoout using hot glue. The last problem is that you have to add multiple layers of paint when painting on the cardboard to get the cardboard background to go away. The good thing about using cardboard is that it makes the artwork pop out more. This also helps with the realism.
