Art 2

What I learned was how to draw a 1 point perspective for the first time. I learned how to use the horizon line to make objects appear as if they are going to one focal point.
What I learned from 2 point perspective was how to make a object appear from two focal points. I learned how to draw things like buildings and windows ect.
What I learned from 3 point perspective was that the objects get smaller in size with less detail. I also learned that the space between objects decrease.
What I learned from the value chart was how to make the shades show from a light angle point. I also learned what value was and what cast and surface shadow is.
What I leaned by drawing my sketches was a general idea of how I wanted to draw my final sketch. I also got a general idea of how I wanted to draw my shading and value points.
How I came up with my idea was by choosing to use a cube as the base of my drawing. I tried to be creative and choose something that has the general shape of a cube but it looks like something else and a everyday product. With mine it was pretty tricky coming up with something because most objects that you think of only look like that shape with nothing else or more to it. I came up with the idea of 15 suitcases and decided to put my own twist into it with using it in a one point perspective. I put them on a flat escalator to give it the visual appeal as if they are moving away or towards you. I added value to give it this affect as well.
What I learned from the pen and ink chart was how to do the four different types of pen drawings; stippling, hatching, cross hatching, and invented. I also learned how to take those four different types of drawings and use them in different shades.
What I learned from drawing the form studies was how to take the different pen drawing techniques and use them on different figures and shapes. This helped me learn how to use them to add value to shapes in different ways.
What I learned from drawing the pen and in bottle was how to make the bottle look round in certain areas and how to add the light spots as well. I learned how to use hatching to do those things and to add certain values and curves to the bottle.
What I learned from drawing my fairytale sketches was coming up with multiple ideas for my final project. It helped me pick out the one I liked the best and helped me come up with a final idea on how I wanted my final to look and what type of technique I wanted to use.
SELF EVALUATION
1. Discuss your decision on pen and ink techniques. Why you chose to use one or more.
I choosed to use the stippling technique because it brings out the basketballs the best and give it the best look. It looks better for creating the round shape and being able to see the lines within the ball as well.
2. How did you use perspective? Why is perspective important?
I used perspective to make it look like the balls are going towards the goal having the closer ones larger and making the ones farther away smaller in size. Perspective is important because it shows how you look at a artwork and how your eye sees it whether its from one point or any other one. It also help everything from looking totally flat one one paper and also creates a eye illusion.
3. How is texture important in your composition?
Texture is very important because it determines the skin on a object whether it looks furry or smooth or has its own unique texture itself. if you don't have texture then object that normally have it wont have it and it would make the drawing look off a little. For my basketballs I had to use texture for it to have the look of a actual basketball as close as possible without it looking like its made out of something else.
4. Why is value so important in this project?
Value is important because it helps show the depth of a drawing and also helps develop the shape and shades of a object as well and dimensions.
5. Describe your craftsmanship (How well the project is crafted technically)
My craftsmanship is very well because of the technique I chose to use. I had to take more time creating the technique on my drawing because of the choice I chose to use is more time consuming and takes multiple times to layer it correctly.
6. If you could recreate your piece what would you do differently to enhance your final outcome?
I would recreate the depth of the objects to try to make it pop out more and would change the shape of the things in the background like the goal and scoreboard to make those pop out more as well and to give them more shape so they don't look as flat in the background.
7. When applying the pen and ink techniques why and how is it important to make sure you understand the concepts taught in class?
It is important to understand the concepts taught in class because if you don't use them right then your drawing wont come out right. Also the value and look of the technique wont be right as well if you don't understand what you are doing and your final project wont look as good as it could look.
8. As a growing artist how do you think what you have learned will guide and better your future projects.
What I learned will help me expand my drawings because it gives me multiple ways to draw certain things. It also helped my pen drawing skills and taught me different drawing skills and techniques that I didn't already know before. In return my artwork will look and turn out better in the future.

What I learned from painting the apples was how to use watercolor in multiple ways. I learned how to apply shading by using more or less water. I also learned how to use watercolor pencils and pen on the water color in order to add more value to the painting.
What I learned from drawing the color pencil spheres was three different types of techniques was hatching, layers, and tonal under painting. I also learned how to add the different shadings and layer values when using the color pencils to add blendings to the colors.
What I learned from drawing the colored pencil on the colored paper was how to use the different colors like white for light values. I also learned how to start with light layers first to make the colors pop and blend more because once you go dark you cant go back from it.
What I learned from drawing with pastels was how to use the chalk to create value correctly because using them can be difficult for some people. I also learned how to add blending to the pastel by using your fingers or a paper towel and I learned how to work with the color pastel pencils as well.

What I learned from drawing the okeeffe inspired sketches was three different outlooks to draw for two different ideas. It helped me decide which option to use for my final project and which one I liked the best. It also helped me decide what I wanted to use for my final drawing that would look best which I thought would be water color.

Self Evaluation

  1. Describe the craftsmanship of your drawing. (Is it neat and well executed?)
I think that the craftsmanship of my drawing was very well executed. You can tell just by looking at the picture how well the neatness of my drawing came out with the fruit and the background. The colors and shapes of my drawing comes out really nicely in my drawing and overall I think that it came out really well. The blend of water colors and colored pencil came out nice together.
  1. Do you think you used a full range of values to create the illusion of depth?
I think that I used a full range of values in my drawing to create a full illusion of depth. With the cut up fruit in the back the depth really looks like its coming towards in in a way with the use of shading throughout. Also the depth with the fruit on the side was used very well with the use of colors and shading to give you the full illusion of the fruit sitting there with the leaves folding down and the several layers.
  1. How do you think you represented the style of the artist Georgia O’ Keeffe?
I think I represented the style of the artist more than others simply because I chose to be different. When I saw Georgia's Paintings I noticed that it looked like she used a lot of water colors to get her drawings to stand out and I loved the look of it so I decided to implement the use of watercolor in me drawing as well. She also draws a lot of flower-like things so I chose a fruit that had very vibrant and flower-like colors to it.
  1. Describe your choice of colors/color harmonies and how you used them throughout the artwork.
My choice of colors that I used are very loud but very simple and vibrant. I wanted to stick with the original colors of the dragon fruit because it was the main reason  had picked to draw it because I wanted to do something different but something that stood out as well and this fruit did that. I loved the way the pink popped on the fruit. For the fruit I used a mixture of pink and orange. For the inside of the fruit I used a mixture of black and gray. For the leaves I used a mixture of greens, yellow, and brown. I chose these colors because they really created the value of the fruit the best and the different shadings to make it look the best.
  1. How did you create contrast in your drawing?
How I created contrast in my drawing was with the use of shading and value. Also by using a mixture of colors in certain areas to make it look darker in some areas compared to others. Another way I created contrast in my drawing is with the color choices as well.
  1. How did you use textures, highlights and shadows to enhance your artwork?
I used texture in my drawing to enhance my artwork with the multiple colors throughout the drawing and the different values as well. From the texture with the leaves to the texture with the fruit. I used highlights to enhance my artwork with adding white spots to enhance the look of light in my drawing. I used shadows to enhance my artwork by adding layers and to help it add value for the picture to look more realistic and pop out.
  1. Describe any difficulties you had creating your drawing and what you could do to improve your drawing?
A difficulty that I had drawing my drawing was in the beginning when I had to draw my outline I had a little bit of difficulty getting the circle perfect. I also had a little bit of difficulty with the dots on the fruit and how I wanted to draw them.

Research Paper
C:\Documents and Settings\Deven\My Documents\Jean-michelpaper.htm
What I learned from painting the value chart was how to add different values to the paint using white and black. I also learned how adding values to different colors look and blend differently and some even make new colors almost.

What I learned from painting the color wheel was how to create a variety of different colors in a creative way. I learned which colors mix to make other colors as well.
What I learned from drawing my sketches was I got a feel of how to take my reference pictures and to use them to incorporate them in more of the style of my artist. I also learned how to implement his painting movements and got a idea of how I wanted to paint my final painting.

Landscape in the style of an artist critique
 Self Evaluation
  1. Who was your referenced artist for the painting? Name 4 main ideas you used from your research to create your painting.
Name- Jean-Michel Basquiat
1. Neo-Expressionist
2. Graffiti
3. Culture or inspirations
4. Line Movements
  1. Describe the craftsmanship of your painting. (Is it neat and well executed?)
The craftsmanship of my painting I thought was really neat and perfectly executed in incorporating my artist's style to my artwork. I think I did a really good job in really capturing the style of my artist and how his artwork is like. I also did a good job with the colors and texture.
  1. What was the most difficult part of this project?
The most difficult part of this project for me was adding all of the multiple layers. I had to start from the back and move forward and that was kind of confusing when trying to find out when to use certain colors on my artwork.
  1. Describe your color choices and how they reflect the work of your chosen artist?
He used a lot of random colors throughout his paintings but they all had one main background which is what I did and then I just went from there with adding the random vibrant colors throughout the piece that work well together.
  1. Describe how the style of your landscape reflects your chosen artist.
The style of my landscape reflects my artist almost exactly. It looks kind of child like like his paintings and it has a bunch of random lines and splashes of color throughout the painting. It also has a graffiti-like look to it as well just like his. I also think I did really well on the background.
6.      What do you think your chosen artist would say if he or she could see your painting today?
If my chosen artist could see my painting I think he would be very proud. I think he would say that I did a great job and that it looks like one of his own. I think he would love the message and the painting overall knowing that he was the inspiration for it.
  1. What would you do differently if you were to do this project again?
I wouldn't do anything differently if I were to do it again because I like the way it turned out, but if I were to do the project again I would choose my second option and do a different painting but in his style again. I also would change the way the face looks on the person.
What I learned from drawing the sketches was more of a main idea of how I was going to put my clay pieces together. I found my final idea of what I was going to make and I also figured out the colors I was going to implement in it as well and the layout of my final project.

Clay Food Critique

Self Evaluation

  1. Describe the craftsmanship of your sculpture. (Is it neat and well executed?)
The craftsmanship of my sculpture was really good. The overall shape of the clay piece is nice and the way the leaf and grapes stick out makes it look even more 3-D. The overall plan and structure was well executed with the way I wanted it to go and getting it to come out correctly without falling apart.
  1. What was the most difficult part of this project?
The most difficult part was getting the grapes and leaves to stick to the bowl without messing up the overall shape of the pieces. Also was getting the bowl to be perfectly even. Also getting the paint in every little corner of the bowl even the little hard to reach areas.
  1. Did your color choices work together harmoniously?
I think that the color choices actually went well together. I think they all complement each other well and also look nice put beside each other. The natural grape colors look well in the orange bowl in my opinion.
  1. Is your sculpture interesting from all views?
Yes. My sculpture looks interesting from all views because with each view you get something different that you might not notice from a single view. You can see new things from the bottom, top, and all side angles.
  1. Describe the differences in constructing a sculpture and doing something 2D.
3-D is different because it pops out more. It also looks more realistic. 2D is more flat and 3-D you have to sculpt every angle of the sculpture. Its more to plan out.
  1. How did you create textures in your sculpture?
I created texture in my sculpture with the clay. I put in the texture I wanted before I painted it. I also added more texture with the multiple layers of paint on the clay piece,
  1. Does your sculpture look like the actual food? How did you accomplish this?
Yes. I think my sculpture looks like real grapes. If grapes where in a bowl they would sit in it and out it exactly how I implemented it in my clay piece. I made it with my hands and put all of the pieces together like a real grape would look.
  1. What would you do differently if you were to do this project again?
I make sure that I have more time to paint and sculpt it the way I wanted instead of having to rush to finish it. I would also make sure that my clay pieces were perfect before they got put in the kiln.
What I learned from drawing my sketches was an general idea of what I was going to print. I also learned the color chooses I was going to use and when I was going to use them. I learned how I was going to print my final project and the color scheme I was going to go with.

Four color prints

SELF EVALUATION

1.      Describe the craftsmanship of your prints. (How good the project is technically crafted)
-registration and carving
-burnishing and ink coverage
I think the craftsmanship was good but could be better. I think the carvings were pretty good considering I draw my drawing to small. I think the registration marks could have been more even and neater. Also the ink coverage could be less messy and neater as well.
2.     How did you use texture, color harmony and balance to define your choice of subject?
-texture
-color harmony
--balance
I used texture to define the details from the top to bottom with the water the grass and the details on the dinosaur. I used to color harmony to define the background that the dinosaur was in so you know what type it was, I used balance to make everything all go together nicely.
3.     If you could recreate your pieces what would you do differently to enhance your final outcome?
If I could recreate my pieces I defiantly would take my time on them. I would make sure that every single ink print comes out perfectly so that my final piece doesn't look so messy and comes out as nice as I planned on having it look like in the sketch. I would align all of them to come out correctly. I would also take more time in making sure that I cut out the pieces and the areas around it more correctly as well.
